Ninety-two faculty members from the College of Civil Engineering at Tongji University have been recognized on the 2026 World’s Top 2% Scientists list released by Stanford University and Elsevier, up from 81 honorees last year. Among these, 45 scholars are included in the “Career-long Impact” category, while 91 appear in the “Single-year Impact” ranking.

Across both rankings, the college demonstrates strong research impact in Civil Engineering and Geological & Geomatics Engineering, with its academic influence extending to several related disciplines. Civil Engineering accounts for 30 of the 45 career-long selections (67%) and 57 of the 91 single-year selections (63%), while the two leading fields together represent about 87% of each list. Other represented disciplines include Building & Construction (9% career-long, 10% single-year), Mechanical Engineering & Transportation (4% and 2%), and Environmental Engineering (1%, single-year only), highlighting the college’s broad and interdisciplinary research strengths.
According to the Elsevier Data Repository, the database draws on standardized information on citations, h-index, co-authorship adjusted hm-index, citations to papers in different authorship positions, and a composite indicator (c-score). Scientists are classified into 20 scientific fields and 174 sub-fields. A scientist is included if he or she ranks among the top 100,000 by c-score — calculated both with and without self-citations — or achieves a within-sub-field percentile rank of 2% or above.
